1. Get students to learn to use the senior sentence patterns in the composition;

2. Get students to know the types of the mistakes they have made in their composition.

Enable students to learn how to combine two sentences into one by using the senior sentence patterns.

教学过程

Step 1.Turn the difficult sentences into easy ones

    Pick out the sentences from the composition and ask students to turn these sentences into easy sentences in Chinese so that they can translate them into English easily.

1. 英语考试不及格。

   我没有通过英语考试。 I didn’t pass the English exam.

   我在英语考试中失败了。 I failed in the English exam.

 

2. 你为此承受的压力。

  我每天都感到很沮丧。 I felt upset every day.

  我晚上睡不着觉。 I couldn’t get good sleep./I couldn’t sleep well.

 

3. 感谢生活上的关心,克服了相思病。

   Thank you for caring about me, which made me not miss my home any more.

 

4. 鼓励Jenny坚定求学决心,志存高远,四海为家。

   You should put your heart into your study, set up a great goal and work on it.

Step 2.Proofreading

    Pick out some wrong sentences students write in the composition and ask them to find out their mistakes.

Step 3. Fill in the blanks

    Ask students to fill in the blanks with some senior words, expressions and sentences.

1. Finding that I failed in the exam, my parents felt very sad/unhappy/undelighted/unsatisfied/disappointed/upset/depressed.

2. There is no doubt that communication plays an important part in our life./it is of great significance to communicate with parents.

3. I tried my best/spared no effort/did what I can to prepare for the English exam.

4. I hope you can give me some advice on how to learn English/help me solve my problem/teach me how to communicate with my parents and teacher.

Step 4. Combine the two sentences into one

    Ask students to combine two sentences into one with senior sentences.

1. I failed in the English exam. That is quite disappointing.

  It is quite disappointing that I failed in the English exam.

2. I felt upset. I couldn’t have good sleep.

  I felt so upset that I couldn’t have good sleep.

3. I didn’t pass the exam because I didn’t prepare for it.

  The reason why I didn’t pass the exam was that I didn’t prepare for it.

4. We should delight our parents.

  We shouldn’t make them disappointed.

  We should delight our parents instead of making them disappointed

5. When the exam came, I felt extremely nervous and couldn’t do well in it.

  It was when the exam came that I felt extremely nervous and couldn’t do well in it.

  The exam coming, I felt extremely nervous and couldn’t do well in it.

Step 5. Homework

Rewrite the composition.
